Jacqueline Rae Wheeler, a beloved Catholic woman of generous spirit, wise counsel and courageous heart, was born May 18, 1937, in Wrenco, Idaho, and entered into the presence of the Lord on Aug. 16, 2026, in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, at the age of 89, passing peacefully of old age.
Jacqueline lived a life marked by quiet strength, steadfast faith and deep devotion to the people she loved. She carried herself with grace and dignity, and those who knew her were blessed by her unwavering presence.
She was a devoted member of her family and found great joy in the blessings of home and loved ones. Jacqueline is lovingly remembered by her daughters, Michelle Wheeler and Maura Schmitz; her step-daughter, Wendi Wheeler; her stepson, Bradley Wheeler; and her granddaughters: Taryn Wheeler, Trista Wheeler, Tori Wheeler and Sara Carley. Each of them held a special place in her heart, and she treasured the time she spent with them. Her love for family was steady and sincere, and she leaves behind a legacy of strength and encouragement.
Jacqueline was a woman of learning and loyalty. She studied at the University of Idaho and remained a lifelong Vandal fan, carrying that spirit with pride throughout her life. Her enduring support of the University of Idaho was part of the fabric of who she was. She valued knowledge, appreciated good conversation and brought wisdom to the many roles she fulfilled over the years.
In her professional and community life, Jacqueline served as an Idaho Independent Bank Board Member, where her judgment and integrity were deeply respected. Her contributions were meaningful as she approached her responsibilities with care and discernment. Her presence was one that inspired confidence.
Jacqueline also found great joy in the beautiful gifts of life. She loved her family and friends dearly, and she cherished time spent at Lake Coeur d’Alene. She enjoyed reading and traveling, pursuits that enriched her mind and brought her joy through the years.
Those who knew Jacqueline will remember her as generous, wise and courageous. Her life was a testimony to perseverance and love. She was a woman whose influence reached beyond words, and her memory will remain a blessing to all who were privileged to know her. Jacqueline Rae Wheeler will be deeply missed, but her faith, family devotion and quiet strength will endure. May she rest in the everlasting peace of Jesus Christ.
A Rosary will be said for Jacqueline at 6 p.m. Monday, Aug. 24, 2026, at Yates Funeral Home, 744 N. Fourth St., Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. The funeral mass will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2026, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 919 E. Indiana Ave., Coeur d’Alene, followed by the graveside at St. Thomas Cemetery.
