Peggy Joan Baker, 92, passed away peacefully at home on July 29, 2026, surrounded by loving family.
Peggy was born on March 12, 1934, in Timber Lake, South Dakota, to Orvetta Urdaine (Backsen) Murray and Clair Arnold Murray. She had three siblings, Betty, Larry and Bob Murray, all of whom preceded her in death.
Peggy dedicated many years of her career to People's National Bank before continuing her public service with the City of Moses Lake, Washington. She took great pride in her work and was especially known for treating everyone with fairness, kindness, and respect. Those who knew her admired her integrity and the genuine care she showed to everyone she encountered.
A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Peggy's greatest joy was her family. She was preceded in death by her husband Wayne Carrol Baker, her daughter Diane Lynn Baker, her parents, her longtime partner Lawrence D. Hunt and her son-in-law Alec Pugh.
She is survived by her children Debra (Curt) Briggs, David (Darlene) Baker and Dana Pugh. She also leaves behind eight cherished grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, along with many extended family members, her dear friends from coffee club and countless others whose lives she touched.
Peggy found joy in life's simple pleasures. She loved gathering with her friends, where laughter and conversation were always shared. She enjoyed playing games, spending hours putting together jigsaw puzzles, and had a special passion for making quilts. Each quilt she created was a gift of love, reflecting the care, patience and generosity that defined her life.
Peggy will be remembered for her gentle spirit, quiet strength, unwavering sense of fairness, and deep love for her family. Her warmth, compassion, and steadfast example created a legacy that will continue to inspire all who knew and loved her.
While her family mourns her passing, they also celebrate a life well lived – a life marked by devotion to family, faithful service to her community and treating others with dignity and respect. Her memory will forever remain in the hearts of those whose lives she touched.
The family is grateful for the love, prayers and support they have received during this difficult time.
The family is especially grateful to the physicians and staff of Confluence Health Hospice for the kindness, compassion, and care they so generously provided.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, Sept. 11, 2026, at 2 p.m. at Faith Presbyterian Church, 200 S. Kentucky Ave., East Wenatchee, Washington.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to your local PBS affiliate in honor of Peggy’s enduring support of public broadcasting.
