Sylvia Pearl (McEwen) Eich, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully at her home in Sagle, Idaho, on August 10, 2026, just months before her 91st birthday.

Sylvia was born on December 23, 1935, in Walkerville, Montana, to Fred "Bud" and Ruth (Ayers) McEwen. She was the oldest of sixteen children and grew up in Butte, Montana, where she met Donald Herman Eich. They were married on August 19, 1956, in Butte and shared more than 57 years together. In 1964, Don and Sylvia moved their family to Cocolalla, Idaho, where they purchased a ranch and raised their family.

She was proud of her daughters, Tamara and Barbara, and cherished time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Many afternoons were spent with Don picking grandchildren up after school and driving them to practices, games, and activities. Known affectionately as "Ma" and "Poppy," they were a special part of their grandchildren's lives. To her great-grandchildren, she was lovingly known as "MeMa."

Sylvia enjoyed spending time with her sisters. As the oldest sibling, she proudly served as Queen of the Red Hat group known as the Serendippy Sisters. Later, they continued their gatherings as the Crazy Eights, celebrating family occasions and honoring the memory of their sisters, Shari and Rosie.

Sylvia loved tending her flower gardens and watching the birds that visited her yard.

Sylvia was preceded in death by her precious grandson, Cody Palaniuk, who held a special place in her heart; her husband, Donald Herman Eich; her parents, Fred "Bud" and Ruth (Ayers) McEwen; her sisters, Patricia (Mitch) Gasper, Janet (Mike) McCarthy, Shari McEwen, and Rosalyn Carpenter; her brothers, Danny McEwen, Gary (Rhonda) McEwen, and Buddy McEwen; her brothers-in-law, Bill Egan and Rex Pruitt; her sister-in-law, Judy McEwen; and members of the Eich family, including Glen (Alice) Eich, Dean Eich, Gary (Carol) Eich, Lois (Clarence) Davis, and John Wemhoff.

She is survived by her daughters, Tamara (Dennis) Palaniuk and Barbara (Alvin) Hunt.

She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren, Ryan Palaniuk; Trevor (Tori) Palaniuk; Levi (Kimberley) Hunt and their children, Ali and Lane; Tyler (Joellie Rasmussen) Hunt and their children, Evelyn and Elliot; and Desiree (Christopher) Roach and their children, Ava and Lincoln.

She is also survived by her brothers and sisters and their families: Marlene Egan, David (Emelia) McEwen, Frances (Will) Wyland, John McEwen, Rich (Margie) McEwen, Donna Pruitt, Carol (Steve) Mullaney, and Terrie (Scott) McBride; her brother-in-law, Myles Carpenter; her sisters-in-law, Diane (Tom) Cannon, Dorothy Eich, and Gayle Wemhoff; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Glenna Roberts, Linda Voorhies, Andrea Stelly, Cheryl Ziegler, Lori McPherson, Nurse Kim, and CNA Laurie for the compassionate care, friendship, and support they provided Sylvia during her final years. Their support meant so much to Sylvia and her family.

She will be deeply missed by her family, who will forever cherish their memories of Mom, Ma, MeMa, sister, aunt, and friend.
