Hungry Horse News | UPDATED 1 hour, 18 minutes AGO
Virgil Edward “Ed” Hoerner, 78, was called home to be with his Lord and Savior on March 23, 2026, at his daughter’s home in Columbia Falls, surrounded by his loved ones.
Ed was born Feb. 19, 1948, and lived his entire life in Columbia Falls. He honored and served his country well, serving in the United States Army (Airborne) during the Vietnam War. He worked for Plum Creek Mill doing many different jobs throughout his adult working years. He also enjoyed helping his family build homes.
Ed lived a full and meaningful life. He was a devoted husband, a protective father, and a proud grandpa and great-grandpa. When Ed wasn’t working, you would find him playing hide-and-seek, chasing his grandkids around the house and outside, giving them rides on his four-wheeler or on sleds, roasting hot dogs and marshmallows in the fire pit, and camping, hunting, and fishing with his family on the weekends. He also loved getting firewood.
Ed was always ready to lend a helping hand to anybody, no matter the project. Rain or shine, he was ready —s erving was very natural for him.
Ed is survived by his two children, Rodney Hoerner and Lisa (David) Connor; his grandchildren, Samantha (Logan) Nolan, Cody (Ruby) Connor, and Savannah Hoerner; his great-grandchildren, Aubrie, Alivia, Magnolia, Piper and Paisley; his grandsons, Austin and his “Lil buddy” Miles; his faithful brother, Gary; his sisters, Mary (Nick) Morstad and Theresa Jackson; and JoAnn (Terry) Haverkorn; along with numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents, Vincent and Dorothy Hoerner; his brothers Benny, Raymond; and his sister, Margie Gordon.
His wife, Linda, passed away on July 17, 2026.
