Darrell Meskimen, born July 21, 1935, in Cole, Mont., passed away peacefully, leaving behind a remarkable legacy of love, family, service, and a life well lived.
Darrell shared nearly 73 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Gwendolyn Wilkerson Meskimen. Together, they built a life filled with love, family, hard work, and countless camping memories. Their enduring marriage was a beautiful testament to commitment, companionship, and devotion to one another.
Darrell devoted 36 years of his life to education as a teacher and counselor, including 27 years at Flathead High School, where he remained until his retirement. He took great pride in teaching and guiding the many young lives he influenced throughout his career.
Outside of the classroom, Darrell was a true outdoorsman. He loved spending time in the outdoors hunting and fishing and enjoyed the simple satisfaction of working with his hands. He was also an accomplished gardener who took pride in growing a great garden and sharing its bounty with others.
But above all, Darrell was a family man. He is survived by his loving wife Gwen; youngest brother of six, Bernie Meskimen; and Children, Rhonda (Dave) Holmquist, Vicki (Skip) Luster, and Sid (Pam) Meskimen. He was preceded in death by his son, Daniel Meskimen.
Darrell was blessed with 16 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren, who brought tremendous joy and meaning to his life. The stories, traditions, skills, and love he passed down through the generations will remain a lasting part of his family's lives.
A memorial service was held at 10 am on August 20 at Johnson-Gloschat Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held next spring at the Darby, Montana Cemetery, where Darrell will be laid to rest.
