Kootenai County Fairgrounds preserves local agricultural heritage

The Kootenai County Fairgrounds and North Idaho State Fair recently celebrated a piece of local history by branding two newly restored bar tops with livestock brands representing more than 50 ranching and farming families from Kootenai and Shoshone counties.

Each brand tells a story. Some have been passed down through families for more than a century, while others belong to a new generation just beginning their agricultural journey. 

Together, they create a lasting tribute to the families whose hard work and dedication have helped shape North Idaho's rich agricultural heritage.

"A brand is more than a mark — it's a symbol of family, heritage and pride," said Alexcia Jordan, CEO of Kootenai County Fairgrounds and North Idaho State Fair. "We're honored that so many families chose to be part of this project, creating a permanent display that celebrates the people who have built and continue to sustain agriculture in North Idaho."

The branded bar tops will be permanently displayed throughout the fairgrounds, where fair guests and visitors can admire them year-round. They serve as a reminder of the generations of local producers who continue to grow crops, raise livestock and preserve the traditions that define our community.

"As the North Idaho State Fair prepares to welcome thousands of guests this August, the Fairgrounds is proud to showcase this unique tribute to the region's agricultural roots," a press release said. "Visitors are encouraged to stop by, find familiar brands, and learn more about the families and traditions that continue to make agriculture an important part of our story."

The North Idaho State Fair opens Friday.
