St. Ignatius Seniors: Tips on reducing food waste
Theresa Yares | Lake County Leader | UPDATED 57 minutes AGO
One third of all food in the U.S. goes uneaten. Reducing food waste saves money and helps the environment.
The US has a goal to reduce food waste to 50% by the year 2030. We can help in this venture by doing the following: plan your menu and write a grocery list before shopping. Check the pantry and refrigerator for items you may already have. When at the store, buy only what you need and stick to your shopping list.
Ask for smaller portions when eating out and ask for a container to take home what you cannot eat. (From USDA and EPA websites)
