Whitefish sweeps own golf triangular; Glacier’s Murray, Mitton are medalists

WHITEFISH — Glacier’s Torrin Murray and Maggie Mitton were medalists, but it was the host Whitefish Bulldogs who swept the team titles at their own triangular golf tournament held Wednesday at Whitefish Lake Golf Club.

Murray shot a one-over 72 on the South Course to hold off Whitefish’s Mason O’Neil, who came in with a 73. Key for Murray were holes 9, 10 and 11: He sandwiched a birdie and an eagle on two par-5s around a double on the par-4 10th. He also birded No. 15 and shot a 34 on the back. 

Meanwhile, O’Neil and Ashton Taylor (78) helped the Bulldog win the team title over Glacier by eight strokes, carding a 303 total. Glacier came in at 311 and Flathead, 362. 

Tripp O’Boyle, golfing for the Glacier JV, also shot a 78 to tie for third. Whitefish golfers Zack Schmid-Sommer and Jessop Hutcheson — Hutcheson was golfing JV — both shot 79. 

Flathead’s top golfer was Teegan Eisenzimer at 87. 

In the girls tournament, Mitton led Flathead’s Becky Schmidt by one stroke at the turn before shooting 40 on the back at the North Course and carding an 81 total. She won by four strokes. 

Karlee Brown (87) and Ryhlee Scott (91) helped Whitefish win the team title by 24 strokes, at 381. Flathead and Glacier tied for second at 405. 

Glacier’s Lillie Groom shot a 97 to finish fifth among the girls individuals. 

Flathead and Glacier get back on the course Thursday to play the annual Crosstown Cup, at Village Greens. First tee time is set for 1 p.m.
