COEUR d’ALENE — Junior Phinalley Voigt ran down a pass chipped down the middle by freshman Presley Moreau, and scored from 6 yards out with the go-ahead goal in the 26th minute, and the Lake City Timberwolves beat the Owyhee Storm of Meridian 2-1 in the season opener for both teams Friday at the Irma Anderl Soccer Complex.
Owhyee placed third at state in 6A last year; Lake City lost in a state play-in game.
“It was a matchup we were hoping to see last year, so it was fun to actually get out there and play this game,” Lake City assistant coach Laura Tolzmann said. “We used that as fuel in the offseason. We were hungry to get after it.”
Lake City scored in the second minute when junior Ava Roberts ran down a through ball wide, then crossed to senior Riley Brazle, who scored from just inside the 18.
“Overall it was a great start to our season,” Tolzmann said. “It was fun to face a great team and see where we’re at.”
