Mignon McElvaney, 88

Mignon (DuBois) McElvaney, 88, of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, entered into Eternity to be with her Great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Aug. 14, 2026, peacefully at home. Mignon was born in Springfield, Ill., on Aug. 31, 1937. She is a graduate of Illinois College, Jacksonville, Ill., Class of 1959.
Mignon married her husband, Donald August McElvaney, on May 19, 1979; they have four sons. Since marriage, they have lived together in Colorado, Florida, Maryland, South Carolina and Texas, before moving to Coeur d’Alene in November of 2022.
She served her Lord Jesus beside her husband, traveling through most of the United States and thirteen nations overseas. Mignon and Donald represented God their Father in varied settings, including homeschool, Bible prophecy, mission conferences, and churches of various denominations. Since her husband was called to preach and teach the Gospel of Jesus Christ, Mignon was invaluable to the work set before them. Together they sowed the seed of the Gospel, taking advantage of every opportunity and open door.
Mignon and Donald are members of Emmaus Haitian Baptist Church in Fort Pierce, Fla. Emmaus is a Haitian immigrant congregation that they helped plant more than 30 years ago. Since moving to Idaho, they have been attending worship services at the Spokane Hmong Alliance Church, a Laotian Hmong congregation in Spokane, Wash.
Mignon is survived by her husband, Donald of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho; her two sisters, Mary Ann of Springfield, Ill., and Renee and her husband, Rodney Carswell of Santa Fe, N.M.; her four sons: Peter Dieterich and his wife, Shevon of Hartwell, Ga.; Richard Dieterich of Sebastopol, Calif.; James Dieterich of Fall City, Wash., and Peter McElvaney and his, wife Stacy of Denver, Colo.; 11 grandchildren: Inca Coman, Wolfgang Dieterich and Devin Noonan; Lore, Logan, Oskar and Chance Dieterich; Nemo and Ava Dieterich; Shelby Machesney and Abby Rokusek; seven great grandchildren: Rowan, Rosalie and Waylon Machesney; Fritz, Mika and Janik Dieterich, and Brazzil Coman, along with her cousins, nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, Robert A. and Cora Antonia (Ann) DuBois (Dawson), of Springfield.

A viewing for Mignon will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2026, at Yates Funeral Home – Hayden Chapel (373 E. Hayden Ave., Hayden, ID) with a funeral service to be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 27, 2026, at Yates Funeral Home – Hayden Chapel. A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 31, 2026, at Washington State Veterans Cemetery, 21702 W. Espanola Rd. Medical Lake, WA 99022.
