Range Riders roll past Hawks for fifth straight

Glacier scored five runs in the sixth inning to break open a tight game on Sunday afternoon, defeating the Boise Hawks 11-4 at Glacier Bank Park in Pioneer League baseball. 


After trailing 2-1 in the fourth, Kyle Ashworth tied the game with an RBI single. Jake Millan put Glacier (14-22 in second half, 43-41 overall) ahead in the fifth, bringing home Donovan Ratfield. 


Boise (21-15, 44-40) had grabbed the lead behind Joseph Kalafut’s RBI groundout and Matthias Haas doubled in the fourth, but the Hawks managed just three hits against Glacier starter Cole Cressend. 


Ratfield doubled home two runs in the sixth before Carson Garner followed with a two-run single. Brock Tibbitts added a sacrifice fly to push the lead to 8-2. 


The Range Riders added three more over the next two innings, including an RBI triple from Andrew Collins. Ratfield finished with three RBIs. 


Glacier returns home, facing the RedPocket Mobiles on Tuesday at 6:35 p.m.

Late Saturday

Range Riders 9, Hawks 3 

Back-to-back four-run innings gave the Range Riders enough to pull away from the Hawks on Saturday night. 


Glacier trailed 3-1 in the seventh before Jake Millan flipped the game with his 16th homer of the season, a three-run shot that gave the Range Riders the lead. Kyle Ashworth added an RBI single later in the inning to make it 5-3. 


In the eighth, Carson Garner drove in a run before Carson Hornung launched his fifth longball of the year, a three-run shot to extend the lead to six. 


Logan Beard also homered for Glacier, hitting his ninth of the season in the first inning.  


Garner and Hornung each finished with three hits. 


Evan Langston allowed two runs on four hits and struck out six over six innings. Alex Bustamante struck out five in two scoreless innings to earn his third save.
