Aug. 25, 1976 – JOYRIDER CAUGHT 

A 14-year-old Sandpoint youth was arrested for joyriding just two minutes after police received a complaint that an automobile had been stolen. Cherilyn DeLong, 920 Poplar, reported the theft of her car at 12:58 a.m. She had been awakened by the sound of her car being started, looked out the window and discovered it missing. Officer Rocky Eveland apprehended the youth at 1 a.m., spotting the vehicle at Fifth and Larch, as he was enroute to DeLong’s home to gather information in the case.

HOPE ARTIST TO HAVE SHOW 

A one-man show featuring the work of Russell Rosander, Hope artist, will be held at LaGalleria, 4th and Poplar, from 7 to 9 p.m. this Friday.  The exhibit will include woodcuts, mixed media, assemblages and prints using natural materials as a printing medium. Rosander is a 29-year-old California native who came to Hope in 1973 from a southern Oregon commune. In Idaho, he began making woodcuts, and, with encouragement from artist Edward Kienholtz, resumed painting. He also is a  carpenter’s apprentice for a local building contractor. According to Linda Tauber of LaGalleria, the gallery features contemporary art and is a show place for the work of many regional artists.

Aug. 25, 1951 – LACLEDE NEWS 

This community is proud of the new store recently completed by Mr. and Mrs. H.F. (Stub) Thomas. Three months ago they began tearing down the old store, which was the oldest building in the village, and began to build a modern uptodate store with the help of Claud Norman and Lloyd Stevens. Mrs. Stevens did the hand painting. The Thomases sell groceries, meat, feed, some hardware and dry goods and also have the postoffice. Last year they built a new house behind the store.  

The Harley Brickers moved back from Libby just in time to welcome their new granddaughter, born to Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Bricker at Sandpoint.

FAIR LADY CHANGES HANDS 

A deal was closed Monday for the purchase of The Fair Lady from Mrs. Helen Van Sant by Mrs. Laurin E. Pietsch. Mrs. Van Sant, who has operated the exclusive ladies’ shop for several years, will move to Lewiston, where Mr. Van Sant is now located. Mrs. Pietsch, who plans to carry same lines as Mrs. Van Sant, will go to Seattle this week end to purchase new stock for the store.

SPENDS LEAVE WITH RELATIVES HERE 

Morris Tillberg, who is in the navy, returned Monday to his base at San Diego, after a 10-day leave with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Tillberg. At a family dinner Sunday in his honor at the Tillberg home were his parents; his brothers, John, Stanley, Paul and Stephen; Mr. and Mrs. Howard Ridley and June; Mrs. Don Buck and Ronnie and Rickie. Mrs. Walter Burt, Seattle, another sister, could not attend.
