Fall sports season kicks off for Libby, Troy

Fall varsity sports in south Lincoln County kicks off in full force this weekend for Libby and Troy.

For the Loggers, the football team opens at Browning Friday. Their first home game is Sept. 11 against Hamilton.

The Loggers volleyball team is in Dillon this Friday and Saturday for the tip-off tournament. Their home opener is Sept. 10 against Whitefish.

The cross country team hosts its only race Friday at 10 a.m. at Cabinet View Golf Course.

The boys and girls soccer teams are in Frenchtown this weekend. 

Friday, the Loggers play East Helena, boys at noon and girls at 2 p.m. Saturday, they’ll play Lockwood, boys at 9 a.m. and girls at 11 a.m.

Their home opener is Sept. 8 against Thompson Falls, boys at 4 p.m. and girls at 6.

For Troy, the Trojans football team opens at home Friday against Plains.

The volleyball team opens the season Saturday at the Mission Tip-off Tournament. Its home opener is Sept. 4 against Darby.

The golf team hosts its only home match Sept. 11 at Cabinet View. The team played at Ronan Aug. 20, Shelby Aug. 21 and Columbia Falls Monday.

At the Ronan Invitational, in a field of 59 players, the Libby boys team saw Lawson Purdy score 94, 22 strokes over par while tying for 38th. Hank McAfee scored 105 and placed 51st.

The Logger’s next three players, Thomas Nelson, Evan Woody and Anderson Montgomery, placed 57th through 59th, respectively. Nelson scored 126, Woody shot a 135 and Montgomery scored 150.

Libby’s lone girls player, Quinley Leckrone finished 36th after shooting 125, 53 shots over par. The field included 41 players.
