PREP ROUNDUP: Coeur du Christ sweeps Genesis Prep in opener

COEUR d’ALENE — Junior Grace Fanning had eight aces as the host 1A Coeur du Christ Saints beat the 2A Genesis Prep Jaguars 25-13, 25-11, 25-17 in the season opener for both teams Monday at Holy Family Catholic School. 

Angelica Ross added six kills, Therese Junkin 14 assists for Coeur du Christ, which travels to Lakeside tonight. 

"Girls did great,” first-year Saints coach Mason Trevena said. “We’ve got a lot to work on, but the season is looking good.” 

Genesis Prep plays host to Kootenai on Thursday at Holy Family Catholic School.

HARRISON FLATS — The visiting 2A Miners bounced back from a first-set loss to beat the 1A Warriors 18-25, 25-15, 25-10, 25-22 in the nonleague season opener for both teams. 

Wallace plays at St. Maries tonight. 

Kootenai plays Genesis Prep on Thursday at Holy Family Catholic School in Coeur d’Alene.

Timberlake 

SANDPOINT — The visiting 4A Tigers fell to the 5A Bulldogs (1-1) in their season opener, 25-18, 25-8, 25-20 at Les Rogers Court. 

Willow Mattson had 11 assists, eight digs and three kills for Timberlake. Addie Archer had 13 digs and two aces, Rhylee Yetter six kills, five digs and three blocks. 

"We saw some great things tonight and some of things we can improve on in the gym," Timberlake coach Lisa Gardom said. "We really battled in the third set, going point for point for the majority of the set. When we played well, we played really well and there’s a lot to be excited about."

Timberlake plays host to Priest River on Wednesday.

Aaron Tadlock completed a hat trick in the 17th minute for Bonners.
