PRE sets open house Thursday
Priest River Elementary is holding a back-to-school open house Thursday, Aug. 27.
The event will kick off at 5:45 p.m. with a welcome by PRE principal Lynn Parker and a chance for students and families to meet school staff and teachers.
Time has been set for families to visit their children's classroom, with sessions starting at 6 p.m., 6:20 p.m. and 6:40 p.m. The times give parents a chance to visit all of their children's classrooms.
Following the visits, an ice cream social and games will take place on the school's playground.
Idaho Hill Elementary office open
The office at Idaho Hill Elementary is open to give families a chance to stop in to register students, ask questions and more.
Staff is at the school from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Thursday.
For families wishing to register students, enrollment is ongoing.
School supplies are posted on the outside windows for families needing the information prior to the start of school on Aug. 31.
Idaho Hill awarded USDA grant
Idaho Hill Elementary School has been awarded the USDA Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program Grant for the 2026-2027 school year, West Bonner County School District officials said earlier this month.
Through the program, all students will receive free fresh fruit and vegetable snacks before recess time each day — giving students the chance to try new varieties of produce while encouraging healthy eating habits.
"A big thank you to our Child Nutrition Team for helping bring this opportunity to our students again this year," WBCSD officials said.
Eligibility for the USDA grant is based on the percentage of students from lower-income households at each school. WBCSD applied on behalf of every elementary school that met the eligibility criteria this year, and all eligible district schools were awarded funding.
"This is also a great reminder of why we encourage families to complete the Free & Reduced-Price Meal application, even if they don’t plan to use meal benefits," officials said. "This information helps us accurately identify the needs of each school and can impact eligibility for programs and funding opportunities like this one."
