Outlook: Last year was a special one for Bonners Ferry football.  

Outside of the Badgers claiming the 4A Intermountain championship, Bonners Ferry saw senior running back Keenan Maas put the state on notice with a 1,664 yard and 20 touchdown senior season, joined by a terrific season from senior Conrad Hiatt. 

However, those stars have graduated, leaving Bonners Ferry a little less polished, but still dangerous, nonetheless.  

The Badgers will be led by senior quarterback Alex Stolley, who head coach Danny Swift said will get the ball in his hands far more often in 2026. Swift said Stolley, who also plays free safety for the Badgers, has been a weight room warrior and checks every box a team needs from a quarterback. 

The senior’s playmaking was on full display in the Badgers’ season opener against Kellogg, where he posted 209 total yards and two touchdowns. Stolley will once again be supported by a strong set of players in the trenches, including seniors Austin McLaughlin, Gabe Warren and junior Caden Bates. 

Swift was quick to mention three-year varsity starter and state champion wrestler Taylor Dodd, who will anchor both the offensive and defensive fronts. The 6-foot-3, 270-pound lineman recorded four sacks and 37 tackles in 2025. 

The Badgers will lean on Riston Allred, an athletic weapon in the secondary. The senior grabbed an interception in the season opener along with three tackles. 

Finding replacements for Maas and Hiatt won’t be easy and will start by committee. In the Badgers’ opener, junior Tyson Dickson stepped up in the backfield to run for 118 yards. Junior Chace Winkelseth and senior Jake Solt also got involved in the run game and scored a touchdown against Kellogg. 

While the Badgers enter 2026 without last year's stars, the program has the talent and coaching to live up to last season’s success. 

Coach’s comments: 

Head coach Danny Swift on his quarterback, Stolley: “He's got the freedom to make plays with his arm and his legs and we're going to let him we're going to let him be the be the guy... Outstanding young man. He serves his community. He does all the things right.” 

Swift on his offensive line depth: “We really feel good about our depth in the trenches, and it's a good problem to have that we have a battle, we have seven, eight, nine, 10 guys that we're trying to whittle down to what combination of five makes for the best offensive line for us... in a way a good problem for us to have.”  

Swift on Allred: “Another phenomenal athlete, 6-foot-3, 165-lb kid that works hard. He's smart, he's athletic, he's fast, he's not afraid to tackle. He's going to anchor the back end of our defense.” 

“I think the old adage still rings true. You know, football games are won in the trenches, and so when we can anchor our defensive line with that, I think that that is a really good start to a solid defense for us,” Swift said of the Badgers’ impressive defensive line.
