Polson Seniors: Use your special powers to bring rain
Pete Mangels | Lake County Leader | UPDATED 1 hour, 3 minutes AGO
No, tourist season is not over. Fire season is not over. August is almost over. Fall is not in the air, but smoke is. Use your special powers to bring rain and relief from the heat.
Be sure to drink plenty of water (often) to keep your body working as it should. Drink at least a cup full of water four or five times a day.
Our membership campaign is underway! We are already halfway to exceeding last year’s record-breaking membership count. It’s a bargain – only $15 for annual membership.
The annual membership meeting will be held Friday, Aug. 28, starting at 11:30 a.m. The meeting includes election of officers and statistical and financial reports, all in less than 30 minutes. Lunch starts at noon and includes a turkey dinner.
We need a quorum to proceed, so please attend. We appreciate your input.
Lunch is served from 11:45 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Monday-Friday ($5 donation; $10 without a completed MASTS form). Milk is available with all meals; delivery service is available for those who meet our guidelines.
Main dishes include Polish dogs with mac-n-cheese, Aug. 27; birthday dinner at lunch, Aug. 28, featuring turkey with all the fixings and birthday cake, and preceded by the annual meeting at 11:30 a.m.; chili and cornbread, Aug. 31; lasagna, Sept. 1; hot turkey sandwich with mashed potatoes, Sept. 2; Alice’s Casserole, Sept. 3; and turkey-ham wraps, Sept. 4.
The center is closed Labor Day, Sept. 7. Celebrate the workers who built America and continue to make it great!
Activities at the air-conditioned Polson Senior Center include bingo at 6 p.m. Fridays and card bingo, 6 p.m. on the first and third Wednesdays; pinochle, 12:30 p.m. Monday, no pass, and Thursdays, pass four (new and old players welcome); pool table available 8 a.m.-3 p.m. daily; mahjong and bridge, noon Wednesdays (looking for substitutes and regular players); and exercise class (low impact and video-assisted), 10:30-11:30 a.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
Spinning Wheelers meet 11 a.m.-1 p.m. on the second and fourth Tuesdays (call 208-520-1013); and the veterans service officer visits the center from 10 a.m.-noon on the first Friday and third Tuesday of each month (walk-ins welcome).
Our Polson Senior Citizens community center provides space for individuals and groups to meet for physical and mental health, social and educational purposes, and may be reserved for special events on weekends and evenings. We are open 8 a.m.-3 p.m. weekdays, or later by appointment.
