Frontier: Wilson powers Tech to 48-0 win

BUTTE — Jarrett Wilson threw for one touchdown, ran for three scores and Merek Mihelish had two scoring runs as Montana Tech thumped Ottawa, Arizona 48-0 in Frontier Conference football action Thursday.

Wilson, a junior out of Polson, was 16 of 25 passing for 175 yards, including a 22-yard scoring strike to Manu Melo in the first quarter. Wilson also carried the ball 14 times for 113 yards; his 15-yard scamper put the Orediggers up 14-0 at 1:48 of the first. 

Casey Kautzman’s 32-yard field goal made it 17-0 as the first half ended, and then Tech put the game away with four short second-half scoring drives. Wilson’s 6-yard TD run made it 24-0, and his 26-yard burst made it 31-0. Before the third quarter ended Kautzman hit another 32-yard field goal to make it 34-0. 

Levi Torgison set up two third-quarter drives with long punt returns; he had seven returns for 148 yards and also caught seven passes for 57 yards. 

Mihelish, a freshman QB out of Helena Capital, tore off scoring runs of 9 and 47 yards in the fourth quarter. He had five carries for 73 yards and did not throw a pass. 

Asher Feddes led a defense that held Ottawa to 117 yards with six tackles and a third-quarter interception. 

Carroll 30, MSU-Northern 14

HELENA — Kaden Huot threw two scoring passes and Archie LaFurge and Jake Jese had score scoring runs as Carroll College handled the Lights. 

The twin 1-yard scoring runs surrounded a 34-yard TD pass from Hout to Ty Wilkinson as the Saints took a 20-0 lead.  

A 47-yard field goal from Columbia Falls product Kai Golan as the clock hit 0:00 made it 23-0 at halftime, and Huot’s second TD pass to Wilkinson — covering 9 yards — made it 30-0 at 10:25 of the third quarter. 

Huot was 23 of 31 for 372 yards; Wilkinson caught six passes for 115. Glacier product Connor Sullivan had four catches for 74 yards. 

Northern got two second-half-scoring passes from Malakhi Statler, who was 31 of 53 passing for 334 yards with one interception. 

Mary 23, Rocky Mountain 10

GLENDIVE — In a rare neutral-site contest, Ryan Blair’s second touchdown pass to Karsyn Jablonski on the first play of the fourth quarter gave the NCAA Division II Marauders breathing room. 

Blair was 21 of 31 passing 174 yards, with TDs of 20 and 11 yards. Mary is coached by Griz alum and retired NFL player Shann Schillinger. 

The Frontier Conference Battlin’ Bears had closed to 17-10 on Rhett Schwann’s 2-yard scoring run at 4:09 of the third quarter; Rocky got the ball back via punt but then Schwahn was sacked and fumbled. Mary recovered at the Bears’ 14 and scored two plays later. 

Schwahn was 19 of 34 passing for 176 yards. 

The Frontier had five games Thursday. In other contests, Midland University out of Nebraska defeated Dickinson (N.D.) State 31-0, and Southwest Minnesota State beat Valley City State 10-7.
