Girls soccer: C-Falls wins twice in Stevi

STEVENSVILLE — The Columbia Wildkats quickly found themselves in a 1-0 hole Friday, but three goals each from June Johnston and Onnika Lawrence righted the ship in a 7-2 girls soccer win over Hamilton Thursday.
The Kats then got three more goals from Lawrence in a 6-1 win over host Stevensville.
“It was a great start for us offensively, with June Johnston and Onnikka Lawrence both getting hat tricks,” Columbia Falls coach Thomas Clark said. “Defensively we have a number of new players in there and they played great considering this was their first varsity game action.
“We are very lucky to have Alexa Friske back there as our leader.”
Hamilton did get goals from Anna Lewis in the second and 39th minutes and trailed just 3-2 at halftime of the opener. But a goal from Riley Byrd, who also had two assists, got things rolling after intermission.
In the second game Lawrence scored in the seventh minute and the Kats were on their way. Johnston, Ella Robbins and Mikaela Markle added goals and Byrd had three more assists.
“To play the second of a double header on the road and come out and really dictate play, I think it was a strong representation of the work these girls have put in all summer and through preseason,” Clark said. “Evie Dorr and Riley Byrd really dominated in the midfield for us, those two put on a show.”
