A Kalispell man wanted for allegedly threatening to kill his relatives was arrested following a standoff with the regional SWAT team in early August.  

Prosecutors charged Brian Scott Weidner, 43, with felony intimidation in the wake of the Aug. 3 confrontation. He is expected to appear before Judge Danni Coffman in Flathead County District Court on Sept. 3 for his arraignment.  

Kalispell Police officers headed to Weidner's Airport Road home about 4:30 p.m. on the day of his arrest after learning that the 43-year-old had threatened to kill his mother and adopted sister, according to court documents. His mother told investigators that he had increasingly threatened her in recent weeks, including describing how he would kill her, court documents said. He also revealed to her that he had acquired a .357 Magnum revolver.  

When repeated attempts to reach Weidner by phone proved unsuccessful, officers turned to a public address system and instructed Weidner to come out with his hands up.  

Weidner instead phoned 911 and demanded to know why officers were outside his home, court documents said. Told they were investigating the alleged threats he had made, Weidner described himself as armed and prepared to shoot at officers, according to court documents.  

The threat sent an officer sitting in a cruiser outside the home scrambling out of the vehicle for cover, court documents said.  

During the ensuing conversation, Weidner accused law enforcement of previously arresting him under false pretenses and again threatened to shoot it out with officers if they approached his home, court documents alleged. He also allegedly admitted to threatening to kill his mother earlier in the day because she refused to provide him with the phone numbers of other relatives.  

In subsequent phone calls, an increasingly agitated Weidner allegedly demanded that the authorities provide him with the contact information for his relatives that his mother had denied him. 

Authorities arrested Weidner after the regional SWAT team breached his front door with explosives, court documents said. Investigators later found a loaded .357 Magnum gun under clothes in his bedroom closet and more ammunition in the home and in Weidner's possession.  

If convicted, Weidner faces up to 10 years behind bars and a $50,000 fine.
