If there’s a hero in your life who bravely and honorably served in the United States military, the city of Hayden is looking to hear their story.

The city’s Veterans Commission is set to honor a local distinguished military veteran Wednesday, Nov. 11, during the annual Hayden Veterans Day Ceremony.

Those looking to nominate a veteran to be chosen as the honoree must submit a biography highlighting the candidate’s military experience and subsequent service in helping the community.

The chosen veteran will best embody the essence of “Duty, Honor, Country” through both their military service and continued service to the local community, a press release said.

Servicemembers of any branch of the military are eligible to be nominated as the 2026 Distinguished Veteran, be male or female and have been enlisted, a warrant officer or a commissioned officer.

The veteran who is chosen must participate in all three of the Hayden Veterans Day Ceremony on Wednesday, Nov. 11, at 11 a.m., the Hayden Lights Parade on Saturday, Dec. 5, and the Hayden Days “Hometown Heroes/Military Appreciation” Parade on Saturday, July 24.

To nominate someone for the 2026 Distinguished Veteran, email [email protected], send or drop off a completed nomination to the City of Hayden Veterans Commission, ATTN: Distinguished Veteran Sub-Committee, 8930 N Government Way, Hayden, ID 83835. Nominations must be received by Sept. 25.
