OTHELLO — An 18-year-old Pasco man was cited after turning himself in to authorities in connection with a hit-and-run collision that caused more than $36,000 in damage at an Othello-area fuel station, according to the Adams County Sheriff's Office. 

Jesus Angel Gonzalez, 18, of Pasco, reported to the Adams County Sheriff's Office substation in Othello on Aug. 26 and identified himself as the driver involved in the incident, Sheriff Dale Wagner said in a statement. 

The investigation stemmed from an Aug. 18 collision at Bob's Korner, where a white Ford F-250 Super Duty backed into a diesel fuel pump and left the scene, according to the sheriff's office. 

Wagner said the driver's employer, based in Pasco, contacted law enforcement before deputies interviewed Gonzalez and reported that one of its employees and a company vehicle had been involved in the collision. 

The damaged diesel pump is estimated to have sustained more than $36,000 in damage. 

Following the investigation, Gonzalez was issued a criminal citation for hit-and-run involving unattended property under Washington state law, according to the sheriff's office. According to Revised Code of Washington, the penalty, if convicted, could be a misdemeanor charge facing up to 90 days in jail and/or a $1,000 fine.  

Wagner thanked community members who shared information about the incident after the sheriff's office sought the public's help in identifying the vehicle and driver. 

"Public assistance continues to be an important part of our investigations," Wagner said. 

The sheriff also thanked the employer for contacting law enforcement and assisting with the investigation, which he said helped bring the case to a resolution. 

A criminal citation is not a determination of guilt, and charges must be adjudicated in court.
