POST FALLS — The Sandpoint High Bulldogs and star goalkeeper Landon Brinkmeier registered their second straight shutout, knocking off the Post Falls Trojans 2-0 on Thursday afternoon.

Bulldogs' junior midfielder Pax Longanecker opened up the scoring early with a goal in the seventh minute off a high pass from junior defenseman Gus Penrose. Sandpoint dominated on the offensive end, totaling 13 shots, seven on goal, to Post Falls’ three, all of which were on goal.

Sandpoint’s second goal of the day came early in the second half, in the 44th minute, thanks to a nice shot from freshman Will Piehl on a through ball. While Post Falls’ goalkeeper made a save, the ball ricocheted into the goal for an own goal, giving the Bulldogs their 2-0 advantage.

While Sandpoint put consistent pressure on Post Falls, Bulldogs’ head coach Dan Anderson said his team struggled to add onto their lead.

“It was just one of those games where we found it difficult to find the back of the net,” Anderson said. “Overall happy with play from the boys and the rebound from our performance on Tuesday that was a bit below our standards.”

Anderson credited his backline defense, junior Blake Bogadi, junior Ethan Polhemus, sophomore Cooper Mire and Penrose for an impressive performance against the Trojans. Those four, junior Wyatt Mitchell and sophomore Jacob Schaefer were key in shutting down the Post Falls offense, Anderson said.

“We now look forward to a very tough opponent in Jerome at a neutral site in Moscow on Saturday,” Anderson said.

The Bulldogs will indeed head down to Moscow for a matchup with the Jerome Tigers on Saturday. The game is slated to start at 1 p.m.
