SPIRIT LAKE — The Priest River Lamanna High Spartans rebounded from a season-opening loss with a dominant three-set win in a nonleague game over the Timberlake Tigers on Wednesday night.
Priest River battled through a close first set, barely scraping by with a 27-25 victory to open the game. However, from there, the Spartans dominated the Tigers, sweeping the next two sets with ease, 25-15 and 25-10.
Head coach Katlyn Ward said the Spartans learned a lot from Monday’s heartbreak against Bonners Ferry and played with a “renewed drive.”
“We hope to keep this momentum going,” Ward said.
The Spartans were led by junior outside hitter McKinley Burgess-Duquette with 11 kills, four service aces and a .450 hitting percentage. Freshman Ava Griesemer posted an impressive seven blocks and three kills.
Senior Callie Stanger led Priest River with 33 digs while senior Haylee Jepson-Church totaled 21 assists. Another senior, Raygn Turner, had the second-most kills on the team with four.
Priest River is back in action for another home, nonleague game against Wallace on Saturday, Aug. 29 at 1:30 p.m.
