PREP FOOTBALL: Coeur d'Alene rolls past Silverton; Buttz wins debut as Timberlake coach
Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 8 hours, 43 minutes AGO
SILVERTON, Ore. — Tannar Stern threw four touchdown passes and ran for one more, and the Coeur d’Alene Vikings rolled to a 37-7 victory over the Silverton Foxes on Friday night.
Maddox Lindquist and Gibson Comstock caught two touchdowns each for Coeur d’Alene (2-0), which led 29-0 at halftime.
“Our offense showed we have some big-play ability which really helped us break the game open,” Coeur d’Alene associate head coach Vinny Lupinacci said. “Defensively we did a lot of things well tonight — did a great job against Silverton’s run game and putting pressure on the QB to get off the field in third-down situations. Boys really did a nice job of flying the ball.”
Jackson Hackett and Ben Murray each had interceptions for Coeur d’Alene, which plays host to Lewis and Clark of Spokane next Friday.
It was the season opener for Silverton, which won 21-14 at Coeur d’Alene last year en route to a class 5A state title in Oregon.
"Happy with where we are at after two games, but need to clean some things up as we move forward,” Lupinacci said. “We had some special teams miscues that showed up tonight that we need to improve upon."
