PREP ROUNDUP: Coeur d'Alene boys win at Libby, Viking boys top Rocky in soccer

LIBBY, Mont. — Coeur d’Alene junior Wyatt Morgenstern was the top local finisher, taking second in the boys race at the Libby Invitational at Cabinet View Golf Club on Friday. 

Wyatt Morgenstern finished in 15 minutes, 40.40 seconds to lead the Viking boys to the team title with 47 points. Other Coeur d’Alene runners in the top 10 were junior Rowan Henry (fifth in 15:55.95) and junior Blaise Howard (seventh in 16:03.22). 

Timberlake senior Caleb Royce was third in 15:44.70, Jonathan Barnhart ninth in 16:05.19, leading the Tigers to a third-place finish with 89 points. 

Timberlake senior Lola Eggleston was the top local finisher in the girls race, finishing fifth in 18:35.12. 

Coeur d’Alene sophomore Victoria Howard (18:55.55) and junior Anna Christman (18:58.36) were sixth and seventh, respectfully, leading the Viking girls to the team title with 64 points. 

Post Falls senior Ainsley Parker was eighth in 19:59.40.

COEUR d’ALENE — Junior Blake Wise scored two goals for the Vikings in a nonleague win over the Grizzlies of Meridian at Viking Field. 

“We played phenomenal from front to back today,” Coeur d’Alene coach Robbie Harmelink said. “We wanted to play together and it was great to see our execution of our gameplan and motto to fight for each other.” 

Grant Johnson had six saves for Coeur d’Alene (2-1), which hosts Timberline of Boise today.

COEUR d’ALENE — Junior Cale Hanners scored in the first half off an assist from Collin Rzepa for the Timberwolves, who fell to the Wolves of Boise in a nonleague match at the Irma Anderl Soccer Complex at Lake City High. 

Timberline scored the go-ahead goal on a deflection late in the first half. 

“Overall, our boys played a great game,” Lake City coach Chaz Donovan said. “Timberline is a very good team. The boys locked it down in the second half and created plenty of opportunities to tie it back up. The team is relentless to the final whistle.” 

Lake City (1-2) hosts Rocky Mountain of Meridian today.

“We were down 5-6 players, including three starters today, so I was happy to see some players step up,” Coeur d’Alene Charter coach Craig Daigle said. “Brooks showed some great leadership. I was also happy with how Anthony Haler was able to play multiple positions for us as we played players in unusual spots.”

“It was a good game for us,” Lake City coach Matt Ruchti said. “Timberline was the better team out of the gate, and it took us a little too long to get going. I’ve got to do a better job of getting us out of the gate. But it was good to get a game like that to see what kind of level we need to be at.”
