Dixie Lee (Kelson) Hoglan, age 89, passed away peacefully at home to be with the Lord on Aug. 13, 2026. Dixie was born Jan. 20, 1937, to Orville and Margaret (Aldrich) Kelson in Bonners Ferry, Idaho.
Dixie grew up in Bonners Ferry, where she received her education and began building the foundation for a life filled with family, friendship and memories. In high school, she was a spirited cheerleader and found joy in riding horses with her closest girlfriends, forging unforgettable friendships and adventures. Dixie met the love of her life, Darrel Hoglan, and at just 16, they eloped. Together, they shared an incredible 73 years of marriage.
Dixie had a passion for gardening, filling her world with vibrant flowers. At one point, she also raised llamas, managing a herd of 30 with tender care. Whether tending to her home or spending winters in Arizona, she embraced each season with dedication and grace.
Dixie is lovingly remembered by her husband, Darrel; daughters Pamela Hoglan and Kimberly Schnider; three grandchildren, Natasha Miles, Amber Tinkess, and Johnathan Schnider; three great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson. She was preceded in death by her parents, Orville and Margaret Kelson; a brother, LeRoy Kelson; and two great-grandchildren.
A small service will be planned for a later date.
