Joanne Accetta, 83

Joanne Kitzmark Accetta, 83, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2026, in Sandpoint, Idaho.

Joanne was born Sept. 24, 1942, to John and Loretta Kitzmark in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She grew up in McKees Rocks and Pittsburgh, graduating from St. Justins High School in Pittsburgh in 1960. Then she attended the Duffs Institute of Business and she worked for Blue Cross Insurance Company until she started her family.  

She raised her daughter, Christine (Harshbarger) Smart, in Pittsburgh and met Dominic (Skip) Accetta, and married 1977. Later, her daughter moved to Sandpoint in 2005, and she followed in 2013 to be closer to her daughter and grandchildren.

Joanne loved to play card games, like poker, and board games; her favorites being Scrabble and Bingo. She also enjoyed cooking, going to the movies, horse racing, spending time with friends and family and was the biggest Steelers fan in Sandpoint.

She faced many difficulties and trials throughout her life, but leaned into her faith and the love of her family.

Joanne was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Skip; her twin brother, John; and another baby brother, Jackie.

She is survived by her daughter, Christine (Matt) Smart of Sandpoint, Idaho; and two grandchildren, Avery and Indigo.
