DESERT AIRE — A Mattawa man was arrested and booked on suspicion of vehicular assault after he allegedly hit a bystander with his car after a disturbance at a party at a residence at about 11:15 p.m. Jan. 31. He also allegedly hit a car parked at the residence.

According to information in the statement of probable cause, Alain Suarez Pantaleon, 19, was involved in the disturbance at the party. He started to leave the residence, according to the statement of probable cause, and as he left, he allegedly hit a car belonging to the other person involved in the disturbance.

Suarez Pantaleon then allegedly hit the person who tried to break up the disturbance, according to the probable cause statement. The person sustained minor injuries and declined medical care, said Kyle Foreman, public information officer for the Grant County Sheriff’s Office, in a statement.

Suarez Pantaleon then drove away from the house, but turned around, according to the probable cause statement. He was driving back toward the house when GCSO deputies arrived, the probable cause statement said.

Pantaleon denied trying to hit anyone, the statement said. He refused to take a field sobriety test or a preliminary breath test.

He was arrested without incident.

As of 5 p.m. Monday, Suarez Pantaleon was still listed in custody at the Grant County Jail facing charges of DUI, Hit and Run of an Unattended Vehicle and Vehicular Assault. No bail had yet been set. The case number assigned to the incident is 26-1-00037-13.  Suarez Pantaleon is next scheduled for a court hearing Feb. 24.
