GRANGEVILLE — Senior Draeden Taylor hit three 3-pointers and scored 12 of his game-high 22 points in the third quarter as the Kellogg Wildcats broke the game open after halftime in a 64-48 Central Idaho League win over Grangeville on Saturday.
“The guys responded really well coming out of the half,” said Kellogg coach Mike Martin, whose team led 18-8 after the first quarter, but had its lead cut to 25-24 at halftime. “We got out to a great start and then they closed the half on a 15-2 run. We really challenged our guys to stop giving up the second chance opportunities and play more solid defensively.”
Junior Evan Vindasius scored 10 of his 15 points in the second half for Kellogg (9-7, 4-2 CIL), which made five 3-pointers and outscored Grangeville 24-12 in the third quarter.
“Hitting those shots from beyond the arch really gave us a spark,” Martin said. “There was definitely a pep in our step once we saw the ball go through the hoop again.”
Kellogg hosts Wallace on Monday. The Wildcats are in third place in the CIL, behind Orofino (13-2, 5-1) and St. Maries (10-3, 3-1).
Junior Gage Smith scored 17 points for Grangeville (3-13, 1-5).
