COEUR d’ALENE — Post Falls, with three champions, claimed the North Idaho Rumble championship by four points on Saturday at Coeur d'Alene High, the Trojans' 13th in the 16 years of the event.

“I think our guys are really wrestling well toward the end of the season,” said Post Falls coach Jeremy Zender, in his second year as head coach. “Our guys like competing in front of their home fans. It’s really a testament to how hard they’re working. At times, it doesn’t seem like we’re getting better, but they seem to rise to the competition when they can.”

Tristan Mendenhall (106 pounds), Matthew Hamilton (132), Colton Austin (157) claimed title for Post Falls, which finished with 270.5 points.

Coeur d’Alene, with champion Brock Armstrong (190) and runner-up finishers Rocco White (113), Justus Peregrina (120) and Carter Newby (150), finished second with 266.5 points.

“We’ve made some progress,” Coeur d’Alene coach Jeff Moffat said. “We got Carter back on Wednesday, and he looked like he shook the rust off this weekend. We competed well and we’re pleased with our effort. It’s a tough tournament and hard to get on the podium, especially the top four.”

Carson Leonard (120) and Cole Cooper (144) won titles for Lakeland, which was third with 203 points.

Other area champions were Timberlake’s Wyatt Carey (113) and Zach David (150) and Aiden Yearout (165) of St. Maries.
