Lady Cats top Panthers, fall to Trojans
JOHN HAMILTON | Hagadone News Network | UPDATED 3 months, 2 weeks AGO
The Superior Lady Cats did a lot of things right in Saturday’s game in Drummond with the unbeaten, largely unchallenged to this point Lady Trojans, but the one thing they did badly did them in.
The culprit to any coach’s well-designed game plans? “Turnovers,” Cat coach Jeff Schultz said of Drummond’s 50-26 win over Superior. “We played really well in other phases of the game, really good defense, we manned up with them physically, we actually did some good things.
“But we just cannot afford to turn the ball over like we did in that game,” he added. "A lot of turnovers can undo a lot of other good things.”
Perhaps undone by turnovers to some degree, the Cats did not lose contact with the Trojans until the second half after trailing only 24-13 at halftime, and Drummond is undeniably one of the best C teams in western Montana. For comparison sake, Drummond beat No. 8 Seeley-Swan 58-16 the night before, making Superior’s final score a might more respectable in retrospect.
In other action last week, the Lady Cats steamrolled Alberton 53-5 in Alberton Friday.
Now 7-2 in 14C action and 11-4 overall, the Lady Cats play Two Eagle River at Pablo Friday in their only game this week.
Against Alberton last week, Maryisa Swope led the Cats with 13 points, Ava White scored 11, Josie Crabb and Lily Jasper 10 apiece, Maggie Haworth five, Makenzie Reum four, and Madi Allard two.
See other story for Alberton scoring.
At Drummond, Crabb led the Cats with nine points, White added six, Reum four, Lily Jasper and Perri Jasper three each and Haworth one.
Remington Cline socred 18 points to pace Drummond, Jackie Wetsch scored 12 and Kimber Parsons 10.
