Bradley Aaron Dawes, 51
Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 2 months, 1 week AGO
A much-loved Son, Brother, Uncle, Nephew, and Cousin, Bradley "The Big Guy" Aaron Dawes, 51, passed away peacefully after battling a long-term illness, leaving behind a legacy of pure love and profound lessons.
Born May 2, 1974, in San Jose, Calif., to Gary and Arlita Dawes, Brad was a very "special" person. Although born with an intellectual disability and facing challenges, he redefined strength, demonstrating that life's impact is not measured in years but in love. He had an incredible ability to light up a room with his smile and beautiful eyes, bringing immense happiness to everyone he met.
Brad taught those around him the true meaning of patience, strength and unconditional love. His smile was infectious, and his ability to connect with people, often without words, left a lasting impact on all who knew him.
He lived a full life, finding immense happiness in riding his "Big Wheel" at a young age, camping and boating trips on Lake Coeur d' Alene, being a dedicated athlete in the Special Olympics, even making it to the state championship in Boise, Idaho, participating in a local bowling league, listening to his music and watching his favorite cowboy movies while of course eating his popcorn. In his later years, he just enjoyed the company of friends and family. After graduating from Post Falls High School, he would go on to attend TESH for many years, enjoying hanging out with his classmates and the friendly staff, doing multiple fun-filled learning and physical activities. He would even go on to work a part-time job at Goodwill.
He is survived by his loving mother, Arlita; sister, Pamela Neihart; brothers, Michael and wife, Stacey Schwalbe, Scott and wife, Kalista Dawes; best friend, Dave Johnston; aunts, Sharon and husband, Dave Celentano, Sonja Hollis; many cousins, nieces and nephews; as well as a large circle of extended family, friends and caregivers. The family wants to extend deep gratitude to all the staff at Kootenai Medical Center, Ironwood Rehab & Care Center, Ambitions of Idaho, and Emily from High Road Human Services.
Brad was preceded in death by his father, Gary "Beaver" Dawes; his older brother, John Schwalbe; his aunt, Myrna Cahill; and his grandparents: Robert and Marcella Dawes; Thelma "Gammy" and her husband, Dell Peters; Grandpa Lynd; and his wife, Irene.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, Feb. 7, 2026, at 2 p.m., at Yates Funeral Home, 744 N Fourth St, Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.
Everyone is welcome to a small gathering with food and drink afterward—location TBA.
