PREP BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Third-quarter effort fuels Sandpoint boys in win over Moscow
MAX OSWALD | Hagadone News Network | UPDATED 3 hours, 50 minutes AGO
I grew up in the small town of Orwigsburg, Pa., where I resided all of my life before moving to Sandpoint. I attended Blue Mountain High School, where I participated in cross country and track and field, a sport that I ended up falling in love with. I went on to attend and run for DeSales University (with other brief stints at Susquehanna University and Elizabethtown College) and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sport communication with a minor in sport management. I remember just how great it made me feel when I was mentioned in my hometown newspaper. I want to be able to give that feeling to every athlete in Bonner County, no matter how big or small their accomplishments are. As an athlete myself, I know how many hours of work are put in on a daily basis, and that hard work deserves to be recognized. It is my goal to cover as much of the Bulldogs, Spartans and Wampus Cats as I can. I want to work with every athlete, parent, coach, administrator and the community to ensure the best stories are published. | February 4, 2026 1:00 AM
BOYS
Sandpoint 46, Moscow 26
MOSCOW — Senior Logan Roos collected a team-high 12 points, a team-high eight rebounds, two blocks, and four steals, junior Derrick Chamberlain added in nine points, five rebounds and two blocks of his own, and the Bulldogs used a 27-8 second-half scoring advantage, which included a 17-0 finish to the third quarter, to pull away from the Bears on Saturday afternoon for a 5A Inland Empire League win at the Bear Den.
Senior Kingston Corbett had nine points and six rebounds, senior Caiden Gion nine points, including two 3-pointers, and five rebounds, and junior Brock Yarbrough tallied four points, four rebounds and three assists for Sandpoint, which trailed 15-9 early in the game and led just 19-18 at halftime.
"I thought the kids did a good job of being mentally tough throughout the game," Sandpoint High head coach Will Love noted. "We struggled in regard to our offense, but our defense was pretty top notch throughout the evening and that kept us in it, especially when Moscow got out to a lead. Its been a big week with games against Post Falls and Coeur d'Alene, and then having to travel to Moscow, but just happy the boys were able to get this one."
Jonas Mordhorst had a team-high 11 points, Keaton Frei eight points and four assists, and Dan Fitt a game-high 10 rebounds for Moscow, which has lost five straight and is now 3-13 on the year.
Junior Knox Williams contributed four steals and a game-high five assists to the stat sheet for Sandpoint (8-8), which will look to avenge a Jan. 29 6A/5A Inland Empire League overtime loss to Coeur d'Alene on Thursday at Viking Court.
