PREP GIRLS BASKETBALL: Timberlake notches 12th straight IML title

SPIRIT LAKE — With eyes on the seniors of Timberlake High on Tuesday, Tiger sophomore Shae Jones took advantage of her moment on the court.
Jones, who missed the first two months of the season due to a back injury, had 16 points and seven rebounds for the Tigers in a 59-42 Intermountain League win over Bonners Ferry, clinching the Tigers’ 12th straight league title.
“She played great,” Timberlake coach Matt Miller said. “It was definitely her best game of the season, and maybe her high school career. She did a good job of running the court and getting open. A lot of the other girls were getting a lot of attention, but Shae just had a great game.”
Timberlake (13-6, 2-0 IML) will host Bonners Ferry (8-7, 0-2) in the opening game of the 4A District 1 tournament on Monday. With the sweep of the season series, if Timberlake wins on Monday, the Tigers will advance to state starting Feb. 19 at Skyview High in Nampa.
If Bonners Ferry wins on Monday, the teams will continue the best-of-3 series, all at Timberlake, to determine the district's lone berth to state.
Junior Macy Murphey had 14 points and 12 rebounds and senior Malia Miller had nine points, nine rebounds and eight assists for Timberlake.
“Everyone contributed,” Matt Miller said. “We didn’t have the best shooting night, but they still found a way to get it done and grind it out. I’m really proud of the kids to play like that with having such a rough shooting night.”
Freshman Jaycee Bateman scored 11 points for Bonners Ferry.
