PREP WRESTLING ROUNDUP: Stark makes mark, hits 100-win milestone as Sandpoint girls named Rumble champions

MAX OSWALD | Hagadone News Network | UPDATED 3 hours, 52 minutes AGO
by MAX OSWALD
I grew up in the small town of Orwigsburg, Pa., where I resided all of my life before moving to Sandpoint. I attended Blue Mountain High School, where I participated in cross country and track and field, a sport that I ended up falling in love with. I went on to attend and run for DeSales University (with other brief stints at Susquehanna University and Elizabethtown College) and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sport communication with a minor in sport management. I remember just how great it made me feel when I was mentioned in my hometown newspaper. I want to be able to give that feeling to every athlete in Bonner County, no matter how big or small their accomplishments are. As an athlete myself, I know how many hours of work are put in on a daily basis, and that hard work deserves to be recognized. It is my goal to cover as much of the Bulldogs, Spartans and Wampus Cats as I can. I want to work with every athlete, parent, coach, administrator and the community to ensure the best stories are published. | February 4, 2026 1:00 AM

GIRLS

COEUR d'ALENE — Coach's dream of having an athlete as dedicated as Izzy Stark.

The Sandpoint High junior, wrestling at 130 pounds, won all three of her matches by pin — two in under a minute — to claim the Lady Bulldogs' lone individual title as she picked up her 100th career win at the North Idaho Rumble tournament held Friday and Saturday at Coeur d'Alene High.

In order to achieve the feat, Stark was not scored on in her first two bouts against Post Falls and Hanford, and then overcame an early 3-2 deficit to win her championship match against an opponent from Lewiston in just 38 seconds. Teagan Newsom (140) recorded two wins by pin and another by a 3-2 decision, Vanessa Hood (135) had a win by pin and a win by medical forfeit after leading 14-0 in the match, and Avery Inge (125) and Zxyloh Hull-Johnson (155) had two wins by pin and the four all finished in the second for Sandpoint, which beat out 24 other teams to claim the championship with 248 points — 95 points ahead of runner-up Post Falls. Lilli Marti also grappled to a silver medal in the 235-pound weight class.

Finishing out the two-day tournament with bronze medals were Ariana Turnbull (170), Mackenzee Donenfeld (100), Rhaelyn Schedlbauer (110) and Shayne Pirlot (145). Turnbull impressed with a team-high five wins, four of which came by pin and one which came via a 7-2 decision; Schedlbauer collected three wins by pin; Donenfeld had two wins by pin; and Pirlot had two wins by pin and a 10-7 win by decision to round out the Lady Bulldogs' top performances over the weekend.

Daphne Krenelka (125) was fourth and compiled four wins, three by pin and one by a 10-3 decision, and Summer Birch (120) was fifth for Sandpoint with three wins by pin.

Priest River's Naia Lamb (125) placed fifth and had two wins by pin and a win by an 18-12 decision for the Lady Spartans, which were 20th out of 25 teams with 13 points.
