'Dream Roles and Miscasts' returns Feb. 13
Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 1 week, 3 days AGO
Aspire's production of the original "Dream Roles and Miscasts," the third show of Season Nine, will return to the stage when it opens at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 13 at the Midge and Pepper Smock Family Theatre at the Kroc.
This is the third iteration of the production, with the original being presented in 2020. "Dream Roles and Miscasts" sprang from a need to share the arts, but due to restrictions surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, the original was presented under very limited and controlled circumstances. Despite the setbacks surrounding the arts at the time, the show was revived with all new material within the year and "Dream Roles and Miscasts 2" was well received.
Fast-forward to now and the request to repeat the show has returned. It is a favorite not only among performers, but with audiences that love the opportunity to see a myriad of popular shows, ones currently on Broadway, classics and fan favorites all melded together in one delightful production.
"It's such a fun shake-up of the ordinary," Trigger Weddle, co-director, said in a Jan. 23 news release. "The actors are giving it their all because it may be their one shot to play the part."
A bonus, Weddle explained, is that members of the cast join in on each other's dreams or miscasts, "so we get full ensemble numbers, a favorite part of many shows."
Traditionally, performers submit a "dream role" or a "miscast" role (usually both) from the musical theater canon. Submissions run the gamut, from classics to the latest shows on Broadway; attainable parts where an actor fits the age or gender of a beloved character; or by contrast, characters an actor would not necessarily be cast in for the same reasons. Co-directors Weddle and Paisley Siemens took the submissions and created a show that satisfies both dreams and miscasts, offering great material for audiences to enjoy.
"Dream Roles and Miscasts" has a limited run of three performances from Feb. 13 to 15. Aspire is offering a Theatre Prix Fixe in partnership with flagship sponsor, Cascadia Pizza Company.
Tickets are $20 or $105 for the Prix Fixe Dinner and Show Deal.
