COEUR d’ALENE — Senior Josh Watson scored 11 of his 17 points in the second half, and the 6A Lake City Timberwolves pulled away after intermission for a 73-51 victory over the 5A Lewiston Bengals in a matchup of two of the best teams in Idaho on Friday night at Lake City High.
Junior Jordan Carlson added 12 points for Lake City (12-7), and went over the 1,000-point mark in career scoring with the Timberwolves. He is now at 1,003 points. Carlson also had six rebounds and five assists.
Senior Beau Pearson added 11 points for Lake City, ranked third overall in Idaho, and third in 6A by MaxPreps, and senior Jackson Bowman had 10 points, six rebounds and four assists.
Lewiston (16-3), ranked No. 1 in 5A by MaxPreps and sixth overall, kept it close in the first half with its dribble-drive offense, 3-point shooting and a full-court press which caused the T-Wolves some issues.
Lewiston, leading the 5A Inland Empire League, trailed 35-28 at halftime, before Lake City, tied for first with Post Falls in the 6A IEL, opened up a 57-40 lead after three quarters.
“Lewiston’s very good at keeping the ball moving and we lost some guys more than we should have,” Lake City coach James Anderson said. “We were getting a feel for the game in the first half. They’re just really well coached and kept the ball moving and aren’t afraid to shoot the 3. We executed our defensive game plan a lot better in the second half and did a much better job of staying balanced against the press.”
Royce Fisher scored 20 points for Lewiston, which had won 13 straight games, and Jordan Walker added 12. Brady Rudolph hit three 3-pointers and scored all 11 of his points in the first half.
Lake City plays host to Sandpoint on Wednesday.
