Robert Raymond “Bobby” Putnam, affectionately known as Cowboy Bob, passed away peacefully Jan. 26, 2026, in Garwood, Idaho, at the age of 71. Born on April 20, 1954, in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, Bobby was the beloved son of Raymond and Helen Putnam.

Bobby’s life was marked by kindness and determination. He grew up in Coeur d’Alene and attended local schools before pursuing further education through Tesh courses and Renewed Horizons. In 1999, Bobby joined the family of Howard and Pam Estes, where he found a new home and the opportunity to live out his dream of becoming a cowboy. Bobby embraced life with enthusiasm, caring for the animals and riding often. His childhood nickname, Cowboy Bob, became a cherished reality.

Bobby also excelled in the Special Olympics, earning multiple medals and numerous ribbons in equestrian events. His adventurous spirit took him beyond Idaho to destinations such as New Mexico, the Grand Canyon, Mount Rushmore and Fort Worth, Texas, where he experienced the thrill of riding a longhorn steer.

He is survived by Howard and Pam Estes of Garwood; his sister, Sue (Lyle) Baker of Salem, Ore.; his nephew, Wes (Hannah) Baker; and his grand-nephews, Elliott and Orion Baker. Bobby was also survived by numerous cousins, including Rick and Stacy Combs, their children Erin and Alina, Amy and Greg Sabens, and their children, Matthew and Katherine. Bobby’s warmth and gentle heart touched all who knew him.
