ANDRUS PICKS MUNSON AGAIN 

Idaho Gov. Cecil Andrus reappointed J.P. Munson of Sandpoint to another five-year term on the State Board of Education. In a surprise appearance on the Boise State University campus where the Board was meeting, Andrus said,  “I just realized the term of one of your members expires in March. Don’t worry, if he’ll accept, I’m going to reappoint him. You don’t have to give him a retirement dinner after all.” Munson, who was Andrus’ first appointee to the State Board of Education, has served since 1971.

SENIOR CITIZENS’ STORE REOPENS  

The Senior Citizen Thrift Store, recently evicted due to the sale of the building it was housed in, has found a new home and will reopen Tuesday, Feb. 17. A sympathetic woman out for a walk is responsible for locating the new site for the store at 221 Pine. She noticed a For Rent sign, checked it out, and notified the woman in charge of the store, who then worked out a rental agreement. The building was a private residence. The Thrift Store, maintained through donations of salable items from the people of the Sandpoint area,  will be open Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Miss Pat Bloxom, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clair Bloxom, and Jack Rogers, son of Mr. and Mrs. Glen Rogers, were wed at the Methodist parsonage Jan. 13, attended by Eleanor Misner and Billy Barber.

TO ADD FLUORINE TO CITY WATER 

People on the Sandpoint water system will soon be drinking water that will help cut down the number of dental cavities in the teeth of children. Following a hearing at the city hall Tuesday morning, the city council authorized the city attorney to draft an ordinance permitting the city water department to fluorinate the water. The potential  benefits will greatly exceed the low annual per capital cost, “about a pack of cigarettes a year for every person.” Local dentists are heartily in favor of the fluorination program, said Dr. A. Snedden, Sandpoint dentist.

11 MEN CALLED BY SELECTIVE SERVICE 

Bonner county selective service board received a call for the induction of 11 men who will leave Sandpoint Wednesday on the 4:30 p.m. train. The group includes Lawrence Wayne Reynolds, John Michael Brown, Samuel Harry Norman, Frank Irvin Leader, Robert Lee Jacketta and George Herbert Cary, all of Priest River; Robert O. Melton, John Herbert Warren, Arie E. Poelstra, Joseph Clarke Martin and Robert Alvin Eastlund, all of Sandpoint..
