Consistent Lady Cats hold off Two Eagle
JOHN HAMILTON | Hagadone News Network | UPDATED 3 months, 1 week AGO
In a sometimes-chaotic game, the Superior Lady Cats were the models of consistency in Pablo Friday, scoring 16 points each quarter to register a gritty 64-47 win over the Two Eagle River Eagles.
Now 6-2 in District 14C conference play and 12-4 overall, coach Jeff Schultz and his Lady Cats complete regular season action this week, playing at St. Regis Friday and entertaining Noxon Saturday.
The Cats were heavily impacted by illness and injury last week. The illness part seems to have affected most everyone on Superior’s roster (coach included) over the course of the last several weeks. Hurting the most in that regard in Pablo was freshman Lily Jasper, Schultz said.
Perhaps most impactful last week was the at least temporary loss of leading scorer junior Josie Crabb, who has been diagnosed with a stress fracture. Schultz said they will not learn if Crabb can return until Feb. 19, the first day of the 14C tourney in Polson.
In the meantime, due to Crabb’s injury and the overall sickness factor, the Lady Cats were forced to adjust. “We asked some kids to step into different roles and they responded in Pablo,” Schultz said. “That was a good win for us over a tough team.”
Makenzie Reum responded the best offensively for Superior, pumping in 24 points to lead a balanced Lady Cat scoring attack, Maggie Haworth and Ava White added 12 points apiece, Maryisa Swope nine, Lily Jasper four and Perri Jasper three.
Keke Tenas paced Two Eagle River with 20 points, Emma Spotted Eagle scored nine, Jodessa Dickson five and Laura Shotgunn four.

Hawks await playoff fate
The playoff fate of the Blue Hawks is in the hands of others as Northern conference teams head into the final week of regular season play, but you won’t find coach Jared Koskela and his scrappy young squad fretting about it. They just want to play another day, whichever way they have to do that.
