Kootenai National Forest officials recently announced a number of closures to perform work at recreational sites as well as one at a washed out road following the December flood.
Here’s a brief look at the projects:
Timberlane Campground upgrades
The Timberlane Campground on the Libby Ranger District will be undergoing much-needed improvements starting this summer.
Forest officials said the campground will be closed the entirety of the 2026 season and is currently not available to reserve on recreation.gov.
An official closure will be in effect once construction operations begin.

Spar Lake Road temporary closure
A temporary closure order is now in effect for motorized vehicles for Forest Service Road #384 (Spar Lake) on the Three Rivers Ranger District.
The closure is to provide for public safety until crews make appropriate repairs to road damage caused by the December 2025 flood. The road is closed starting at the Whoopie Creek bridge (approximately mile post 18) continuing to its terminus.
The road remains open to non-motorized vehicles (walking, biking, etc.) so the public can still access trailheads at the end of NFS Road 384. The road is currently too unstable to support motorized vehicles.

Rexford Bench boat ramp closure
A temporary closure order is now in effect on the Rexford Ranger District for Rexford Bench Campground Road #7940 and boat launch.
The closure is to provide for public safety and safe construction operations while the boat ramp asphalt is replaced with concrete.
