Libby native qualifies for Olympic freeski slopestyle finals

Libby native and U.S. Olympics team member Konnor Ralph is headed to the finals after placing 10th in the men’s freeski slopestyle Saturday, Feb. 7, at the 2026 Milan Cortina Olympics.
Twenty-three-old Ralph will compete for a medal beginning at 4:30 a.m. Tuesday. There are three runs in the finals.
Ralph, wearing bib No. 11, is scheduled to be the third starter. In World Cup competition, Ralph has a runner-up finish and two third-place finishes.
Saturday was Ralph’s Olympic debut and he clearly made the most of it. He scored 68.91 at the Livigno Snow Park in Italy. There were 29 competitors and the top 12 qualified for the final.
Fellow Americans Mac Forehand and Alex Hall will join Ralph in the finals. Hall, the reigning gold medalist in freeski slopestyle, was eighth, while Mac Forehand was sixth.
Norway's Birk Ruud earned the top qualifying spot with an 81.75 score. Ruud’s teammate, Tormod Forstad, finished second in qualifying while Sweden's Jesper Tjader was third with a 79.83.
Ralph will also compete in the men's freeski big air qualifying round Sunday, Feb. 15.
Ralph is joined by one other Montanan - Whitefish's Jake Sanderson - in the Winter Olympic Games. Sanderson is a member of Team USA's men's hockey team. The U.S. begins pool play against Latvia on Thursday, Feb. 12.
As of Monday morning, host Italy has the most medals with nine, including one gold, two silvers and six bronze.
The U.S. has two gold medals, one behind the three golds won by Norway and Switzerland. Norway is second overall with six medals. Switzerland, Austria and Japan each have four medals. Canada has two.
