Margaret Petzke, 92

Margaret Ruth Petzke was born Aug. 23, 1933, to Paul and Charlotte (Artzman) Mueller in Wilkinsburg, Pa. She grew up in Pitcairn, Pa., and graduated from high school. She then continued her education at Valparaiso Lutheran College in Indiana, attaining a Bachelor of Science in Education. She met Karl Petzke at “Valpo,” and the couple was united in marriage July 7, 1956, at Trinity Lutheran in Pitcairn. Their union was blessed with three children, David, Susan and William, and nearly 70 years of marriage. Margaret taught for many years as an elementary school teacher. They raised their family and served in their vocations across communities in Kansas, Minnesota, Texas and Idaho. Margaret died peacefully Thursday, Feb. 5, 2026, in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, at the age of 92 years.

Margaret was a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. She was active in the life of the congregation, serving in the LWML and Camp Lutherhaven and supporting her husband, Rev. Karl, in his ministry. She enjoyed quilting, cross-stitch, cooking and especially time spent with her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren. 

She is lovingly remembered by her husband, Rev. Karl Petzke of Post Falls, Idaho; her children, David (and Rebecca) Petzke of Timnath, Colo., Susan King (and Daniel “Boone” — deceased) of Middleburg, Fla., and William (and Wendy) Petzke of Meridian, Idaho; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

The memorial service will be Wednesday, Feb. 11, at 11 a.m., at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 1700 E. Pennsylvania Ave., Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Interment will be at the Christ the King Church Columbarium.
