The Western News | UPDATED 1 week, 6 days AGO
Peter J. Lafond of Buffalo, Texas went home to his grandmother’s (Memaw) open arms on Jan. 28, 2026.
Pete was born Oct. 25, 1968, in Edison, New Jersey. As a child he was happiest spending time at his Memaw’s and Pappy’s house in Newport, Rhode Island every summer.
After graduating from high school in June of 1987, Pete joined United States Army. Pete was proud to be an Army Veteran. He was an avid reader, an accomplished runner in track and field and loved to laugh with his shenanigans.
Pete was given a second chance in life when he moved to Libby, Montana where he met the love of his life Jennie. In September of 2016 he married Jennie and made her the happiest person in the world. Pete and Jennie both “started over” laughing, traveling and loving life together after they purchased Simple Simons in Libby, Montana.
Pete always said, “I’m her ROCK, she’s my BABYGIRL.”
Pete is survived by his loving wife of more than nine years, Jennie, bonus parents Corky and Donna Watson of Buffalo, Texas, four bonus daughters: Brittany (Jack) Pinskiy of Buffalo, Texas, Dawna (Patrick) Haynes of Oakwood, Texas, Kristen (Cody) Martens of Fairfield, Texas and Julia Gardner of Norfolk, Virginia. One grandson Remington that loved his Pepaw to the moon and back of Oakwood, Texas and Sister, Serena Wachsmuth, (niece Gracie), both of Plains, Montana.
Pete was also Elsa’s “Human.” Elsa thought Pete was Puuurfect.
Pete was proceeded in death by his grandparents, William and Elizabeth Smith of Newport, Rhode Island and granddaughter, Ember Leigh Haynes of Oakwood, Texas.
Jennie will be taking Pete to the Kootenai Falls in Libby, Montana (where they shared their first date) and then to Easton Beach in Newport, Rhode Island (where he spent his summers with his grandparents) as his final resting places.
Our family would like to extend our deepest gratitude to the compassionate team at Solaris Hospice in Fairfield, Texas specifically, his nurse Deanna, aide Teresa, case worker Leslie and Ms. Rose, his chaplin for their unwavering care, kindness and support during Pete’s final days. Their gentle presence and dedication brought comfort not only to Pete, but to all of us, and we will forever be thankful for the dignity and peace they helped provide.
A “celebration of life” will be held Saturday, March 7, 2026, with a bonfire at their home in Buffalo.
Pete’s kindness, laughter and unwavering love for Jennie will live on in the hearts of all that knew him.
