Red Devils rise up to down Panthers, Vikings
JOHN HAMILTON | Hagadone News Network | UPDATED 2 months, 2 weeks AGO
Don’t be giving up on those Noxon Red Devil boys just yet.
Rising to the challenge last week, coach Trever Kayser’s Red Devils won a pair of District 14C conference games in Noxon, stopping the Alberton Panthers 65-54 Thursday and nudging past Charlo in a low-scoring affair 34-29 Saturday.
Easing ahead of Charlo in the 14C standings with the big win Saturday, the Devils complete regular season action with three games this week, playing a non-conference tilt in Plains Tuesday and 14Cgames with Two Eagle River in Noxon Friday and at Superior Saturday.
“It was nice to put a couple wins together,” Kayser said of last week’s action noting that key players on both squads they faced – Shea Fredette with Alberton and Karson Cox with Charlo – were out with injury. “They were without their main guys,” he offered, “but Shane (Hatchel, one of the Devils’ main guys) is still pretty hobbled too.”
Hatchel severely sprained an ankle several weeks ago and is still nowhere near full strength, Kayser said.
Kayser’s senior son Justice Kayser led the Devils to the win over Alberton with 27 points, Hatchel scored 17, Guthrie Kayser (Trever’s sophomore son) nine, Eli Sly six, Kaiden Walrath and Segura Fletcher two apiece, and Obijah McKell and Kinley Dennis one each.
“That was great to get eight kids in the scoring column,” coach Kayser said. "That’s the first time all season we have done that.”
Please see other story for Alberton scoring.
In the win over Charlo, Justice counted a game-high 20 points, Hatchel scored nine, Segura three, and Guthrie Kayser and Sly one apiece.
Echo Edwards led Charlo with 10 points and Tasker Brown and Sean Madden added six each.
