Flathead Valley ski racers compete at Lone Peak Speed Series in Big Sky

Flathead Valley Ski Education Foundation athletes travelled to Big Sky for a Super-G speed camp followed by three Super-G races at the Lone Peak Speed Series,
The Speed Series was one of several race series this winter that qualify Northern Division athletes to Western Regional Championships at Palisades/Alpine Meadows, California, Mt. Bachelor, Oregon, and the Tri-Divisional Championships at Snowbasin, Utah, in late March.
Twenty-six racers aged 12-18 competed at Big Sky, half of whom were experiencing SG speed racing for the first time. Three races provided an opportunity for everyone to improve through the series.
FVSEF podiums in Big Sky included Parker Retz of Whitefish, who won all three SGs for U18 men, Greta Lund from Polson won a first- and second-place finish for U18 women and Whitefish’s Sydney McPhie took two second places and a third place for U18 women.
Other top five results included a fourth-place finish in U14s for first time speed racer Adelyn Danley of Whitefish, a fourth place in U14s for Theo Elliott of Kalispell in his first SG race, a fifth place in U14s for Nolan Shaw of Whitefish, and a fifth place in U16s for Whitefish’s Claire Graham. Numerous top 10 finishes and the full results are listed below.
