A Ronan woman is accused of intentionally writing bad checks and conspiring with others to get them cashed. Matilda Maxine Pablo, 27, entered a plea of not guilty in District Court in Polson Feb. 4 to felony issuing a bad check.
According to charging documents, and prosecutor Ben Anciaux with the Lake County Attorney’s Office, Pablo opened a checking account with the online banking company SoFi, but didn’t deposit money into it. She then allegedly wrote checks to others in hopes of them cashing the checks and sharing the proceeds.
The charging documents show approximately 23 checks totaling $7,611.75 were written between Jan. 19 and May 1, 2023.
In a separate matter, Pablo entered a plea of not guilty to criminal possession of dangerous drugs for allegedly possessing a hollow sheath containing suspected fentanyl residue on April 27, 2022. She was already facing a simple possession charge for allegedly possessing a blue pill containing suspected fentanyl.
Judge Molly Owen set all three matters for trial on July 20. Pablo remains at liberty.
