It’s not about how you start, it’s how you finish. The Badgers proved that as they bounced back from a nine-point deficit at the end of the first quarter to beat the Kellogg Wildcats by five points.
Peyton Hinthorn scored 22 points, Ty Schrock scored 19 and Sulay Abubakari had 13 points with three three-pointers as the Bonners Ferry defense responded after giving up 23 points in the first quarter to only allow 38 points over the final 24 minutes.
The deficit was just four points going into the half as Hinthorn scored seven points while Jameson Cartwright-Kissee had all five of his in the frame.
Ty Schrock took over the game in the third, as his nine points were more than half of Bonners Ferry’s 13 in the quarter. However, it was the Badger defense that stood out in this frame, as they only allowed six points to take a narrow three-point lead heading into the final quarter.
The last eight minutes were a test of attrition, as the Badgers took 16 of their 22 free throws in that span.
11 points from Hinthorn, six from Schrock and five from Abubakari were enough to win the game and take momentum heading into a matchup at home against 5-10 Priest River on Feb. 13, before a final league regular season game away at Timberlake on Feb. 17, exactly a month after Bonners Ferry defeated them at home by 22.
Two days later, the Badgers will play away at St. Maries in their last regular season game of the year, before district playoffs start against Timberlake.

A one-sided third quarter was the difference between the two teams, as Bonners Ferry beat the Flathead Valley Crusaders on Feb. 7 away from home.
Four Badgers scored in double digits, as Peyton Hinthorn had 24 points and Sulay Abubakari had an even 20.
Jameson Cartwright-Kissee scored 16 points with three three-pointers and Ty Schrock had 14 points.
The first quarter was high scoring, with the Badgers taking a narrow two-point lead, 23 to 21. Hinthorn’s 12 points led the Badgers, as he was fouled three times.
In the second quarter, Abubakari’s nine points were a team-high as the scores remained at two going into the ten-minute halftime interval.
Hinthorn and Schrock combined for 19 points in the third quarter while the defense put on a clinic, the Badgers outscoring the Crusaders 24-11 to take a commanding 15-point lead.
While Bonners Ferry only scored 10 points, it was smooth sailing as they rebounded from a tough loss against Lakeside four days prior to take the victory.
