Timberlake 6

COEUR d’ALENE — Two weeks ago, Coeur d’Alene senior Riley Berger came up short in his match against Timberlake’s Carter Loutzenhiser at 175 pounds in the fifth-place match at the North Idaho Rumble.

Berger turned the tides on Wednesday.

Berger pinned Loutzenhiser in 3:17 for the Vikings, one of five pins over the shorthanded Tigers at Coeur d’Alene High.

“Riley hasn’t been our regular guy, but came up and got a big win,” Coeur d’Alene coach Jeff Moffat said. “He was beating him pretty good, then lost at the Rumble, so to see him bounce back and get a win was good to see.”

Mason Rogers (138), Dominic Prangley (144), Carter Newby (150) and Dawson Riley (215) also had pins for Coeur d’Alene, which travels to Lewiston on Friday.

“We’re wrestling really well right now,” Moffat said. “We just need to keep the momentum going.”

“We knew there was a forfeit for us at heavyweight, and needed both Chance and James to come through tonight,” Lake City coach Corey Owen said. “Chance, he had a really tough kid and knew he had to get his hand raised for us to win. It was the best he’s wrestled all year tonight. Earlier this year, he was a little impatient at times, but he was just solid and got the job done for us tonight.
